Belgium should handover Paul Rusesabagina and Faustin Twagiramungu to Rwanda or take them to court

Paul Rusesabagina and Faustin Twagiramungu continue to fund and mobilize terror groups like MRCD/FLN to be involved in terror activities in different parts of Rwanda.  For instance this month alone, Rwanda’s National Police presented to the public and the media four men who were arrested in connection with grenade attacks in Rusizi district, Western Rwanda.

The suspects were recruited in Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo and according to their testimonies they were members of FLN led and funded by Paul Rusesabagina and Faustin Twagiramungu and admitted to have received money for their criminal activities from Paul Rusesabagina.

This follows confessions by Callixte Nsabimana alias Sankara, who had claimed responsibility of several attacks in South and Western parts of the country and admitted to have acted on the instruction of Paul Rusesabagina the former president of MRCD –Ubumwe/FLN terror group which took credit for most of the terror attacks mounted on Rwandan civilians in the South and Western parts of the country killing six people and injuring several others.

Belgium is legally obliged to transfer criminals like Paul Rusesabagina, Faustin Twagiramungu, Innocent Biruka and others to face justice or prosecute them.

Now is the time for the Belgium government and courts to choose law over impunity and ensure that people like Paul Rusesabagina, Faustin Twagiramungu, Innocent Biruka and others in this case face justice.   It is high time for the Government of Belgium to signal commitment to accountability for the victims of terror attacks masterminded by Paul Rusesabagina and the rest of his group residing in Belgium.

The arrest and prosecution of Paul Rusesabagina and all involved in conducting terror attacks in different parts of Rwanda remains a priority. Their arrest will be a credit to Belgium’s law enforcement and agencies and will clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of international co-operation in rendering justice to victims.

The charges against Paul Rusesabagina and Faustin Twagiramungu are based on evidence including money travel details to finance FLN terror group to conduct terror activities in Rwanda and mobilze youth to join terror groups such as FDLR and FLN.

During the a press conference held at palace residence in Brussels, Faustin Twagiramungu the vice president of MRCD/FLN called youth to raise and take up arms to overthrow the democratically elected Government of Rwanda. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4UxQ2_Rb-Ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT_C3k0yhtY
