Belgium has always used Jambo to push its ulterior agenda
Many were shocked after learning about Belgium's ‘decision’
to refuse the endorsement of Rwandan Ambassador
Vincent Karega, from Jambo News on July 24.
The latter is a media outlet run Jambo
Asbl, a negationist and revisionist
organization whose members are children of the
planners and perpetrators of the 1994 genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda, who now
represent their interests.
The fact that the Belgian government used Jambo Asbl to communicate
its affairs with Rwanda was clear evidence of the persistence of the political
agenda of the European country.
Belgium destroyed the unity of Rwandans and issued identity
cards that divided the population into three parts: Hutu, Tutsi and Twa, by
measuring the length of the nose, height, and eye shape, in order to control
Rwanda. This division sowed hate and discrimination among Rwandans, which later
resulted in the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
This burden is too heavy to carry for a country like Belgium.
Therefore, the best and easy way to evade was to use the descendants of people
who committed the genocide to push its agenda of whitewashing its role in that
massacre irrespective of its consequences on Rwandan society.
Belgium owes an infinite debt to the Rwandan people and
particularly to genocide survivors. However, instead of regretting its role in
genocide and helping Rwanda in its unity and reconciliation journey, and bringing
the perpetrators to book, the country perpetuates the legacy of the genocide
every day and remains in bed with genocide ideologues.
Jambo Asbl is the mask of genocidaires. Its activities are
meant to clean the names of their genocidaires' parents or relatives, pushing
double genocide ideology and sowing conflicts among Rwandans. Yet the
organization is registered as a Belgian human rights association whose
objectives are to carry out projects aimed at peace, dialogue, and justice.
Belgium and Jambo Asbl have the same political objectives. For
that reason, Jambo Asbl enjoys the protection of the country and advances its
shared plan of redeeming their tainted reputations and tactically concealing its
crimes by tarnishing the image of the current Rwandan government that put an
end to the murderous consequences of Belgian colonization and genocidal regime.
The European country made no secret of its close relationship
with Jambo Asbl. In 2018, when the Belgian parliament was debating a bill to
amend Belgian laws to criminalize negation of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, Jambo
Asbl proceeded to block it and wrote to Belgian lawmakers asking to be heard as
part of the consultative process. Unsurprisingly, they were granted permission to
express their concerns about the proposed bill in Parliament, a move that
prompted the intervention of the Rwandan Embassy and activists.
In 2020, Laure Uwase, a member of Jambo Asbl and daughter
of two génocidaires - Anastase Nkundakozera and Agnes Mukarugomwa, was
appointed as a commission member, to examine the role of Belgian colonial rule
in Rwanda and the entire Great Lakes region. Uwase was not qualified as an
expert in the colonial history of Rwanda.
While Rwanda tried its best to be a good partner to Belgium
and honors the memory of the Belgian peacekeepers murdered by the genocidal
regime with a dignified memorial, the latter shows contempt by working closely
with genocide deniers, providing a safe haven to genocidaires, and chooses not
to prosecute them for political reasons.
At any rate, no amount of evasions, distortions, lies,
denials, and half-hearted apologies will remove the stain of innocent blood
that Belgium helped to spill in Rwanda.
